Safety Notice

Effective: 1 May 2026

This Safety Notice sets out important safety, installation, and usage requirements applicable to all EV Charging equipment purchased from the EV Charge (Pty) Ltd (“EV Charge”) and forms an integral part of EV Charge’s Terms and Conditions.
Incorrect installation, improper use, or non compliance with applicable electrical standards may result in serious risks, including fire, electric shock, equipment damage, personal injury, or death.

1. Customer Electrical Responsibility
EV charging equipment connects directly to a building’s electrical infrastructure and operates as a continuous high load electrical appliance. The customer is solely responsible for ensuring that their electrical installation is suitable for EV charging. This responsibility includes, but is not limited to:
– Sufficient electrical capacity and supply;
– Correct circuit rating and protection;
– Appropriate earthing and residual current protection;
– Compliance with all applicable South African electrical regulations.
EV Charge shall not be responsible or liable for any damage, loss, or injury caused by:
– Pre existing electrical faults;
– Inadequate electrical infrastructure; or
– Non compliant electrical installations.

2. AC EV Charging Station Installation Safety
All AC EV Charging Stations must be installed by a qualified and certified electrician holding a valid wireman’s licence.
Upon completion of installation, the electrician must issue a valid Certificate of Compliance (CoC). Failure to provide a valid CoC may result in warranty claims being rejected, safety risks, and possible invalidation of your home or commercial insurance.

3. Do NOT Use Extension Cords with Portable EV Chargers
Portable EV chargers (In Cable Control and Protection Device) are designed to be connected directly to a properly rated wall outlet.
The use of extension cords with Portable EV chargers is not permitted and unsafe. Many extension cords are not designed for continuous high electrical loads and may result in:
– Excessive heat build up;
– Cable insulation damage;
– Electrical failure; or
– Fire hazards.
EV Charge accepts no liability for any damage, loss, or injury resulting from the use of extension cords.

4. Cable Inspection
Before each use, visually inspect the cable insulation for signs of damage. If you notice any signs of visible damage, overheating or burning smell cease use immediately and contact EV Charge for a replacement cable or unit. Do not attempt to repair the cable yourself. Damaged cables can cause electrical shock, fire, or equipment failure.

5. Maximum Continuous Load and Electrical Capacity
EV charging places sustained electrical load on the supply circuit. Customers must ensure that the circuit supplying the EV charger is specifically designed and rated to handle the full continuous load of the charging equipment.
Overloading circuits or using non rated components may result in:
– Fire hazards;
– Equipment damage;
– Electrical failure;
– Invalidated insurance policies; or
– Voided warranties.
Customers are strongly advised to regularly inspect installations and consult a certified electrician if there is any doubt regarding electrical capacity.

6. Environmental and Installation Conditions
Customers are responsible for ensuring that EV charging equipment is installed in environments consistent with the product’s specifications, including ingress protection (IP) ratings. EV Charge shall not be liable for damage or failure caused by exposure to unsuitable conditions, including but not limited to:
– Water ingress;
– Excessive heat;
– Dust;
– Corrosive environments; or
– Improper outdoor installation.

7. Grid Supply, Load Shedding, and Power Quality
EV Charge does not control the quality or stability of the electrical grid. EV Charge shall not be liable for damage, malfunction, or performance issues arising from:
– Power surges;
– Voltage fluctuations;
– Power interruptions;
– Load shedding; or
– Unstable electrical supply.

8. Insurance and Compliance Notice
Customers acknowledge that non compliant installations may invalidate homeowner, building, or commercial insurance policies. Compliance with applicable electrical standards remains the sole responsibility of the customer.

9. Limitation of Liability
EV Charge shall not be liable for:
– Indirect or consequential loss;
– Loss of use;
– Loss of income;
– Business interruption; or
– Any economic loss arising from installation, use, or inability to use EV charging equipment.

10. No Professional Advice Disclaimer
This Safety Notice is for informational purposes only and does not constitute professional electrical or engineering advice. For questions about your specific installation, electrical system, or suitability of EV charging for your property, consult a qualified electrician.

11. Acceptance
By purchasing and/or using EV charging equipment from EV Charge, customers confirm that they have read, understood, and agree to this Safety Notice.
